Avian flu research at The Pirbright Institute
At Pirbright, our researchers are assessing how avian influenza, H5N1, jumps from birds to mammals and evaluating the risk to cows and humans.
We also explore how bird flu spreads among wild birds and transfers to poultry, as well as the development of effective vaccines and diagnostics.

The Pirbright Institute is the World Reference Laboratory for FMD and work is ongoing to improve diagnostics (especially in the field) and our understanding of the transmission and immune responses to infection.
